HISTORY

Ferco history begins with our founder, Mr. Serdar Aral's joining the Borusan Group in September 1983 under the name of Birlik Çelik, the former and passive Borusan company. The next development and milestones are;

1983 - 1985 "While Starting"

1983 - Birlik Çelik

Birlik Çelik, which was established within the Borusan group in 1952, was reactivated in 1983.
It is a commercial-representative firm established to serve the Iron and Steel industries.
Started to work with Samancor (Iron Alloys) & Great Lakes Carbon (Graphite Electrode).

1985 – BDT

BDT, Borusan Dış Ticaret, Serdar Aral appointed to management.
BDT, Borusan Foreign Trade, $ 100 million worth of steel products were exported from Turkey and became one of Turkey's privileged foreign trade companies.
50% of this export turnover was from Borusan products and the other 50% were from Turkish steel producers, especially Ereğli Demir Çelik.
* Ilva / Italy - Distributorship of hot rolled coils produced by Ilva. (1986 - 1994)
* Eregli Demir Celik / Turkey - Distributorship of iron and steel products of Eregli in Italy (1986 - 1990)
* Sidex / Romania - Actively participated in the distribution of steel products worldwide. (1987 - 1990)

1987 – Ferco UK

Ferco Intertrade UK was founded in England under the Borusan Group structure with the aim to export of Iron and steel products of Borusan group from Turkey and to finance international trade. The main purpose was the distribution of steel products, especially pipes, to Europe.
* BDT carried out the activity of selling steel products mainly to Iran and China 50/50 joint venture with Balli Group under the roof of Ferco Çelik. (Turnover of $ 200 million) (1988 - 1990)
* Burk Mining / South Africa - Acquisition of Burk Mining mine producing Manganese and Iron ore
* BDT activated Comment Intertrade in Dusseldorf for commercial activities. (1988)
* Samancor / South Africa - Representation (BHP Manganese)
* Inespal / Spain - Spain's most important aluminum producer, Representation
* Pertosola / Italy - Italy's most important zinc producer, Representation
* Severstahl / Russia - Carbon Steel, Representation of Turkey
* MMK / Russia - Carbon Steel, Turkey Representation
* Ferom / Romania - Acquisition of iron alloys plant in Romania and later sale to Privat Group - Ukraine
* BDT, Began to cooperate with Ilva and Usinor (ARCELOR) with the aim to invest in Borcelik for Carbon steel cold rolling plant in Turkey

February 1990, Mr. Asim Kocabiyik,Founder and President of Borusan, decided to slow down the trade activity and demanded termination of BDT.
Based on this decision, the joint venture with Balli was terminated.
BDT was terminated and some of his team joined the industrial companies in the Borusan Group, and the other joined Birlik Çelik that was an agency company and led by Serdar Aral. All foreign companies are under the responsibility of Serdar Aral.


1990 - 1997 "Recovery"
Birlik Çelik and Ferco (BDT Trade Department), BDT was reborn from his ashes within the scope of the concept of trade and worked with the aim of continuous growth.
In addition to agency activities of Birlik Çelik, BDT has carried out the following activities as a continuation of the trade activity;
* Ilva / Italy - "Exclusive Distribution" of hot rolled coils produced by Ilva (1986 - 1994)
* Acciai Speciali Terni (AST) / Italy - "Exclusive Distribution in Turkey" of Stainless steel products (1994 - 1998)
* Novokuznetsk / Russia - "Exclusive Distribution" of Ferro alloys (1990 - 2001)
* Samancor / South Africa - "Agents" of Ferro alloys (1993 - 2005)
* Eregli Demir Celik / Turkey - "Exclusive Distribution" of Eregli Iron and steel products in Italy '' SERMAR '' (1990 -1994)
* BHP Manganese / South Africa - Distribution of manganese ore in Ukraine (1995 - 2010)
* "FERSAM" - Joint venture of Samancor and Ferco (50-50%) called '' Fersam '' was established to convert manganese ore from RSA, Gabon and Brazil to manganese alloys in Ukraine, Romania and Macedonia. Closed in 1998.
* Magnitagorsk / Russia - "Worldwide Exclusive Distribution" of steel products ( 1997-1999 )
* Sevarstal / Russia - "Exclusive Distribution in Turkey" of excess prime steel ( 1997-1999 )


1997 - 2008 "Growth"

1997 - Ferco Çelik

In 1997 this team moved out of the Borusan Holding structure into new offices and Ferco Celik was founded in Turkey , as a 25% each partnership between Serdar Aral and the children of the Borusan Family.
Birlik Celik and Comment was liquidated.
In 2003 the shares of Borusan Family was taken over by Serda Aral
Ferco Celik continued to trade as Ferco UK outside Turkey and as Ferco Celik inside Turkey and was involved in the following activities.

1998 - Eurinox

In 1998 Ferco Çelik incorporated the First Stainless Steel service center in Turkey called Eurinox (50-50) J/V with Ferco UK and ThyssenKrupp (AST).
ThyssenKrupp Stainless purchased shares of Ferco in 2003.
During this period Eurinox has offered suitable raw materials to Turkish Industrialists in international norms by providing more than a quarter of the stainless steel demand in Turkey.

1998 - Ferom

When Fersam closed in 1998 Ferco Çelik started to operate the Ferom Ferro Aloy smelter in Romania under a lease from the Government of Romania, to produce Mn Alloys, with ore supplies from The Republic of South Africa.

2000 - Feral & Burk

In 2000, Feral bought the Romanian Ferom manganese alloy smelter plant from the government as a joint venture of Ferco Çelik (25%) and Privat Group .
Feral also bought Burk Mining in South Africa from Audax Mining. (Mn and Fe Ore)
Feral was liquidated in 2002 and Ferom stayed with Privat and Burk stayed with Ferco
Ferco then sold Burk in 2010 to Diro Holdings
* Feral was exclusively distributor for all Private Alloys in Turkey and Europe between the years 2000-2002

2000 – Ferga

In 2000, Ferco Çelik made a Carbon Steel Service Center investment in Gebze - Kocaeli as a joint venture with Gazi Metal (50-50%) on an area of ​​20.000 m2, and then all of this investment was sold to Gazi Metal in 2003.

2001 - Ferinox

It was established under the Eurinox Stainless Steel Center to manufacture stainless steel products for the world's giant Swedish chain stores group on ready-made furniture and home appliances.
Until 2008, it produced bathroom and kitchen utensils and decorative products mainly from stainless steel. Ferinox and Ferco Çelik were merged in 2008 and after this time Ferinox continued all its activities under the name of Ferco Çelik.


2008 - "Concentration"
2008 was another turning point for Ferco Çelik. By seeing that the trading activity in global business was on a decline due to the fact that all the producers were trying to find ways to reach the customers directly basing on increasing competition environment;
The decision of investing the accumulated profit in trading activity to two areas, namely; Stainless Steel Process Center and Product Center was taken.
Serdar Aral moved all its activity and asset base to Turkey , including its trading activity with this decision.

2008 - Ferco Çelik A.Ş.

In 2008, Ferco Çelik and Ferinox merged and a new stainless steel service center investment was started alongside the existing Ferinox plant.
* Upon completion of the facility in 2009, the accumulation from the First Stainless Steel Service Center experience was brought back to the market with Slitting, Cut to Lenght and Grinding lines.
* The current Swedish chain store event accelerated in 2011 with the investment of the pot production facility.
* 2011 - Disc Cutting machine investment was made
* 2016 - Ferco Çelik started manufacturing products for the Automotive and White Goods industries as well as its activities in the Product Center.
* 2019 - Fiber Laser machine investment was made.


2008 - AMR

In 2008, the distribution of Ukrainian ferro alloys was converted from commercial form to limited to general agency. AMP was established.
AMR is an investment in a mining venture for "Rare Earth Minerals" in Turkey by Ferco Çelik.
The project started in 2007 and ended in 2014 when Ferco Çelik sold shares to a Chinese Group.
* Distribution of Ukrainian ferro alloys was carried out by Ferco Çelik, Ronly and Glencore as traders until 2008.

2008 - AMP

AMP was founded in 2008 for distribution of Privat alloys in Turkey as a joint venture between Ferco Çelik and Ronly (2008 - 2013)

2013 - Sfera

Sfera, where producers were involved in partnership structure, established instead of AMP. Share distribution; Ferco Çelik 25%, Vilmeks (Ronly) 25%, Manufacturers 50%
In 2016, Ferco Çelik took over the shares of Manufacturers and increased its share to 75%.
